Microsoft: Windows Server 2008 R2 free for students
Microsoft DreamSpark offers select high school and university students free use of Windows Server 2008 R2: Standard Edition. That's the best deal we could find for this software, which is designed specifically to run with client computers running Windows 7. To obtain this software, you must first log in with or create a Windows Live ID and then verify that you're a student by choosing your school from a list and logging in with your student information. Once verified, you will be prompted to download an ISO image of the software.
Of note, Microsoft DreamSpark offers students free use of a variety of Microsoft software. Notable titles include SQL Server Developer 2008, Visual Studio Professional 2008, Expression Studio 2, and more.
