I'm writing this from Ireland, a country with a population of 5,281,600 as of 2023. In that same calendar year, Costco apparently sold close to 200 million hot dogs. That's 38 hot dogs per Irish resident. This sounds like a decent lunch. But more importantly, this sounds like a decent deal: get a Costco membership for $60, and get $40 back in a Costco Shop Card. That cuts your net expenditure to $20, which works out at 3.78673129354741e-4 cents per Irish resident. (The e-4 apparently means you should multiply that number by .0001.) What I'm saying is: numbers. Figure them out.

It's the ever-popular variant on our even more popular recurring game show: Guess the Real Brand! I present you with five brands. Four are, as far as I'm aware, completely made-up. One is a real brand featured in this here Nordstrom Rack sale. It's very important that we do this every time. And so: GUESSSSS.

  1. Ingobernables
  2. Imperfects
  3. Undesirables
  4. Unpronounceables
  5. Unimiginatives
Click here for the answerIt's 2: Imperfects. And since perfection is unattainable outside of the More Than A Feeling guitar solo and the general tone of The Life and Times of Tim, everything is imperfect, and thus this brand becomes unmanageably non-specific.

You may wonder what a "solar turtle" is. Turns out, it's just a regular turtle with solar lights attached to his back, made to look like tiny glowing succulent flowers, like you found a collection of Echeveria plants growing in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. What it really sort of accomplishes is making this turtle look like a small statue of a less towering cousin of Chaurli from the God of War reboot. Rumour has it that every time you walk by the statue, you can hear the voice of Atreus calling out a solution to a problem in your life you hadn't had time to consider yet. There's a nice deep cut for the video game freaks out there.

I think my favorite item in this sale is... not the Atari, though it's obviously a front-runner. Not the Avengers Advent Calendar – that bubble has burst, and we must shun all superheroes, even that one you incorrectly like. No, my favorite item is this "Jake Sully and his Avatar" bundle:

For two reasons, and neither are good. One: those weird yellow bugged out eyes on the Avatar. What is his deal. Two: the "Jake Sully and his Avatar" name for the set makes it sound like it's a boy and his pet, which would be a far more enjoyable movie series. Jake Sully and his enormous weird blue bug-eyed pet, ending with that infamous clip from Mac and Me, except instead of the kid, it's Jake Sully flying off the cliff, and instead of Mac, it's the Avatar. You know this is the way.

I think the rule should be, if you can afford three 4K computer displays, you don't actually need to save that much on the docking station to accommodate them. So this $8 savings is good enough – think of all the windows you can display at once. On a decently sized screen, you could have at least four usable windows open at once, so we're talking 12 windows, all at your disposal. That means you'd only need 440,133 of these docking stations to display a window for every Irish resident of 2023.
