What Do Black Friday Streaming Deals Look Like?
The quality of the deals will vary widely based on which streaming platform you're looking at; for instance, a lot of the more affordable services will be the ones to offer serious discounts — and for longer periods too. For example, last Black Friday, Hulu offered new users one year of the basic plan for just 99 cents per month.
Streaming Service | Black Friday Offer | Savings |
---|---|---|
Disney Plus and Hulu Bundle | $2.99/month | 81% off |
Apple TV Plus | $9.99/month | 20% off |
Peacock TV | $1.99/month | 67% off |
Paramount+ | $1.99/month for 3 months | 67% off |
HBO Max | $2.99/month for 6 months | 80% |
Fubo TV | $55/month for the first 2 months | 27% off |
Hulu | 99 cents for 12 months | 88% off |
DirecTV | $83.99/month for first 2 months | Column 3 |
Sling | $20 for first month | 50% off |
Netflix | $6.99/month | N/A |
It should be noted that for Apple TV Plus, the normal price is $9.99 so you may or may not see a discount for the service. Instead, what Apple may offer is three months of Apple TV Plus for free with the purchase of select Apple devices. And as for Netflix, they rarely offer discounts of any kind on their plans, so don't expect to see any savings from them for Black Friday.
How Can You Save With Black Friday Streaming Deals?
While it can be easy to find the various streaming services Black Friday deals when they pop up, what's harder to pin down is what level of success you'll find when trying to redeem them — especially if you're a previous subscriber. For instance, some users report that for platforms like Peacock, you may be eligible for new promotions as long as you canceled your previous subscription and said cancellation went through. In these cases, you might want to give yourself a little buffer room and cancel your Peacock subscription ASAP in order to be ready to take advantage of any Black Friday promotions that are bound to pop up.
However, for other platforms it's not that easy. You may need to be unsubscribed for at least a month, or even longer in order to take advantage of new promotions. Depending on what services you're currently using, that could mean it's too late to prepare for the shiny new savings coming next month. Still, you may be able to get streaming Black Friday deals with some simple workarounds. One of the most simple is to create a new email address (or use another if you've got a collection built up).
If all else fails, the good news is that streaming services tend to offer solid deals throughout the year, albeit not as great as the ones we tend to see around Black Friday. But if you're looking to save, there's a good chance that you'll find a streaming bundle deal of some kind at almost any time. And if there are absolutely no offers that you qualify for, you should be able to at least take advantage of things like Paramount Plus free trials. (If you're hoping for a free trial of Peacock, though, you might be waiting a little longer.)
What Streaming Services Have Black Friday Deals?
The good news is that there should be a fair amount of streaming apps Black Friday deals to choose from, as most (if not all) of the major ones will participate in the biggest shopping holiday of the year. Read on for what Black Friday subscription deals looked like in 2023.
Amazon
Amazon provided a Black Friday sale that knocked up to 50% off a variety of movies and TV shows in the Prime Video Store, but the bigger deal was that you could get 75% off a two-month subscription of select channels. Those eligible for the promotion included:
- Paramount+
- MGM+
- Starz
- Vix Premium
- Cinemax
- britbox
- PBS Masterpiece
- Hallmark Movies Now
- AcornTV
- PBS Kids
- allblk
- PBS Documentaries
- Great American Pure Flix
- UP Faith & Family
Apple TV Plus
There were a couple of ways to take advantage of Apple TV Plus' Black Friday deal last year. Shoppers could get three months for free via Best Buy's website as long as they were a new or returning subscriber (not current users), but select Apple devices also came with three months of the service for free. So if you were already buying some of the newer Apple products, you may have been eligible for the promotion that way too.
FuboTV
With Fubo, you'd want to take advantage of the free trial, but after that the promotion should have kicked in. For Black Friday, that meant saving $20 for two months on whichever plan you chose, but the most affordable was just $55 per month — after the $20 discount, of course.
Hallmark Movies Now
If you love the feel-good energy of Hallmark movies, then you'll be happy to know that there's a good chance we'll see a deal on the service for Black Friday 2024. Last year, Walmart Plus members could get 25% off their first four months of Hallmark Plus streaming, as well as $5 in Walmart Cash. It's worth noting that Hallmark Movies Now was also part of the Amazon Prime Video promotion, so there's a chance that both of these could return this year — or maybe even something better!
Hulu
This is one of the bigger streaming platforms, so it'll almost certainly have another excellent offer for Black Friday 2024. It's worth noting that for Hulu, any deals we see tend to be on their ad-supported plans, so don't expect to get the top tier of the service at a huge discount. But last year they offered the ad-supported service for just 99 cents per month for 12 months. Even with the drawbacks of ads, that's an excellent deal that's hard to beat.
Max
Max (formerly HBO Max) also offered a pretty great deal for Black Friday 2023. Subscribers could get max for just $2.99 per month for the first six months; given the normal cost at the time was $9.99 per month, that was a 70% discount! Since the ad-supported tier of the service is still $9.99, we might just see this offer return once again this year.
Paramount Plus
Paramount Plus is one of those services that tends to be pretty generous with its offers. The best Paramount Plus deals we've seen this year have included dropping the subscription cost by 50%. While that particular promotion is no longer available, we're sure Paramount will have another impressive deal for Black Friday. Last year, the Essential plan dropped to $1.99 per month for 12 months, or the Paramount Plus with Showtime for just $3.99 per month; however, that one was only good for three months so it arguably wasn't as good of a deal as the Essential plan's discount. Prices have also increased this year from $5.99 to $7.99 for the Essential plan, so we may not see the savings drop this low for Black Friday, but they'll still likely have an incredible deal to grab!
Peacock
For 2024, Peacock is taking 75% off its monthly and annual Premium plans. New subscribers can get a 1-year subscription for just $19.99 but if you'd rather skip the year-long commitment, there's also a discount on the monthly option. New subscribers who prefer that one can get six months of Peacock Premium for just $1.99 per month; after that, the regular rate will kick in. Either way, to get this promotion you can't be currently paying for a Premium or Premium Plus subscription and you must redeem the offer directly through Peacock, not a third-party service.
This was another service that provided a $1.99 per month subscription cost in direct competition with Paramount Plus. That offer was good for 12 months, but it also provided an annual subscription for just $19.99 as well. Peacock has also increased its prices this year, so we may not see it drop that low for Black Friday 2024, but they'll likely still have a good deal to take note of.
Philo
Philo is a service that offers live TV streaming as well as select on-demand content in the form of more than 70 channels, plus DVR capabilities. We've seen Philo cut the price of their service by 50%, which means you can get your first month for just $12.50 instead of the normal $25. Since last year, the price has increased to $28 per month, so if this returns it won't be quite as low, but it could still be significant.
Sling
Sling already has reasonable prices for sports lovers, especially if you can get one of its 50% off deals that cut the price of its Orange or Blue plans to just $20 per month. Last year the service offered up serious savings when you subscribed to six months of Sling Orange and NBA League Pass. Those savings added up to $257, but you did have to prepay so it was more of an investment up front; still, if you have the cash, those savings are nothing to scoff at!
