As some of you might have noticed, Hooters is offering a peculiar promotion this weekend; any woman who comes to the restaurant with her brood in tow on Mother's Day will receive a free meal (worth up to $10, with the purchase of a drink). Considering the establishment is best known for — how shall we say this delicately? — catering to men, this might seem like an unusual offer. So we wondered: how many people have actually availed themselves of this deal?
According to a representative from Hooters, 35,000 moms redeemed this promotion on Mother's Day of 2013. Given the parameters for the deal — Mom "must have at least one of her offspring present" to dine for free — it stands to reason then that at least 35,000 sons and/or daughters took their mother to Hooters last year. (We suppose it could also mean that 35,000 people found an older woman who kind of looked like them, and convinced her to go to Hooters so they could split the deal, but this seems less likely. Although we wouldn't put it past some of our more motivated deal-seekers.)
Apparently, Hooters has been attempting to draw in more female clientele. Not surprisingly, as of 2012, two-thirds of the chain's patrons were guys. Since then, the restaurant has tried to encourage more ladies to dine-in by catering to couples and, apparently, moms.
Readers, what do you think of this promotion? Have you taken Mom to Hooters for free food before? Will you give it a try this year, or is this something you'd never do for Mother's Day? Sound off in the comments below.
