How to Shop and Save at Walgreens with Coupon Codes

Founded in 1901 by an Illinois drugstore worker, Walgreens is now America’s second-largest pharmacy store chain. It offers everyday essentials such as health and wellness products. Below, we’ve provided all the information you’ll need to help make the most of your next Walgreens shopping experience.

Price Match Policy

Walgreens does not currently offer price matching for its products. Note that prices shown online are web exclusive and may vary from prices at your local Walgreens.

Return & Exchange Policy

Most products purchased from Walgreens.com may be returned either to a store or by mail within 30 days of your purchase date. Returns must be accompanied by the original receipt included with the shipment. Note that this policy does not apply to prescriptions or contact lenses.

Items purchased in-store may be returned to any location within 30 days of your purchase for a full refund or exchange. That said, the return of cosmetic and electronic items are handled at the discretion of the store manager, and usually settled in the form of a Walgreens gift card. Price Adjustment Policy

Walgreens will honor the lowest price posted on the sales floor for all in-store purchases, regardless of time limitations on the sales floor. Prices advertised online are excluded, as the internet pricing may differ from that of retail locations.

Walgreens’ standard policy does not allow for price adjustments. However, based on past customer experiences, there may be some negotiation on a case-by-case basis.

Free Shipping

Walgreens offers free standard shipping when you do any of the following:

• Select “Ship to Store” at checkout (there is no minimum purchase requirement)
• Select “Ship to Home” at checkout (there is currently no minimum purchase requirement)
• Order new contact lenses
• Order a new prescription or prescription refill

Special Discounts and Promotions

Walgreens offers a variety of discounts and promotions via their Weekly Ad Offers , Paperless Coupons , and Top Online Deals pages. New users can score 5000 points ($5) when you sign up for a Walgreens account with your email.

In-store Tips, Tricks, and Hacks

When you buy certain products using your Walgreens rewards card, you may receive a coupon for a certain amount off for your next purchase with your receipt.

Walgreens does accept manufacturer’s coupons, so be sure to keep an eye out for these in your local Sunday paper. It also publishes a monthly coupon book filled with store coupons and offers, which can be found near the store entrance. Walgreens even allows coupon stacking. You’ll see big savings when you purchase a sale item using a manufacturer’s coupon, a store coupon, and your Balance Rewards points.

If an item is on sale but out of stock, be sure to ask a cashier or manager for a “rain check” so you can buy said item at sale price once it’s back. If you’re really lucky, a Walgreens store employee might even let you substitute a similar product of the same brand at the sale price. Note that rain checks are only valid for 60 days and can only be used in-store.

Walgreens regularly offers free items (usually candy, a beverage, or a health & beauty item) via its Register Rewards program. These offers can be found in its weekly ad insert. How does this process work? The offers require you to pay for the item upfront, and in return, you’ll receive a Register Rewards (RR) coupon valued at the cost of the item. This coupon will be good for your next visit on any purchase.

Balance Rewards expire after one year, and Register Rewards expire after two weeks. Be sure to use them before you lose them!

Walgreens’ app coupons are tied to a loyalty card. Scan any item in-store with the Walgreens app to see if there are coupons available.

Member Options

Use your Balance Rewards membership to rack up points, redeem rewards, and save instantly on featured items in store, online, or through the Walgreens App. Unlock additional savings with paperless coupons, special promotions, and members-only offers. There are plenty of ways to accrue points using your membership for pharmacy, health, beauty, shopping, vaccines, and more.

The Auto-Reorder program saves Walgreens members 10% or more (starting with the second shipment) when enrolling. The Walgreens Prescription Savings Club provides discounts on the cash price of brand-name and generic medications (as well as other products and services) throughout the store. There is a required membership fee of $20/year for individuals or $35/year for families. The program offers members the right to purchase specified health care services from participating providers at a discounted rate.

Note that anyone receiving benefits from a Medicare, Medicaid or Tricare program is ineligible for the Prescription Savings Club. As of January, 1, 2020, Prescription Savings Club memberships will no longer be sold by (and the membership cards will not be accepted at) stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Mississippi. Walgreens does not currently offer an ongoing discount for military and veterans .

Retiree Discounts

Retirees can take advantage of a variety of exclusive benefits after linking their AARP membership to their Balance Rewards account. Walgreens shoppers aged 55 years and older can also take advantage of “ Senior Day ” discounts on all eligible in-store and online products.

Student Discounts

Walgreens does not currently offer student discounts.
